5 Foods That Stain Your Teeth
Some Foods Can Stain Your Teeth
The right oral hygiene is essential for keeping a bright white smile, although there is another important component: Monitor the foods you eat and the beverages you drink. Certain foods can stain teeth. If you want to keep your beautiful white teeth the color they are, read on to learn about the foods you should cut down on.
5 Foods That Stain Teeth
BERRIES: Berries offer a lot of health benefits, for sure, but they can also stain your teeth. The deep hue and rich colors in blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries can cause staining, regardless of what form you eat them in, e.g., jam, jelly, juice, whole, etc. When you enjoy these healthy treats, be sure to rinse your mouth and teeth with water immediately after (or better yet, brush!). Or, have a slice of hard cheese, which can neutralize acid and strengthen teeth.
BEVERAGES: Almost everyone drinks problematic beverages, e.g., wine, sports drinks, sodas, tea, coffee, etc. Whether you use coffee to wake up in the morning, soda for a boost of energy in the afternoon, or sports drinks at an after-school football practice, you are staining your teeth and eroding your enamel. Limit your intake of these beverages. Again, brush your teeth after consumption, or at the very least, rinse well with water.
PASTA SAUCE: Due to their acidity, tendency to stick to the teeth, and bright red hue, the tomato component of pasta sauce can stain your teeth. Eat a serving of dark green vegetables beforehand to make a protective coating on the teeth. The film will keep off tomatoes’ staining effect, so go for an appetizer salad.
CANDY AND OTHER SUGARY SNACKS: If you really like hard candy, popsicles, or chewing gum, you’re going to be disappointed to learn that they’re staining your teeth. You probably knew that all along, though. Try ti limit intake, or try a gum made with xylitol instead of sugar. Xylitol doesn’t cause cavities the same way sugar does. Xylitol gums now come in an even more wide range of flavours, including dessert flavours like peach cobbler or apple pie.
TOBACCO. Though not a food, we have to mention it in this article about staining teeth, because it is by far, the worst offender. Your best option is to quit smoking for your health and appearance, but if you aren’t ready to do that yet, perhaps you can try cutting down.
